Thursday Thoughts: Our Trip

Thursday Thoughts Our Adventure The Wandering Asian Couple

After our 8 months trip, we are now back in Toronto – home for us. For the last two weeks, we’ve been catching up with family/friends and settling back home.

My Story From This Trip

Approximately one year ago, Ernest and I made the decision to sell almost everything we owned and travel the world during Toronto, Canada’s winter months. Our plan was to be home during Toronto’s summer months and then travel during the winter months. We had hoped to find a place outside of Toronto where we could call home for 6 months.

On this trip, we traveled and lived out of a suitcase for a total of eight months. I didn’t do it to escape or separate myself from my life. I did it because I wanted to add some experience to my life. Also, some adventure in your life always makes for an interesting story.

I was also tired of the cookie cutter life that society dictates and wanted to be more genuine to myself. However, when you move towards new things in life, you inevitably move away from the ones that were in your life.

What I’ve Accomplished From This Trip?

First, I now have a story to tell. If you’ve been keeping up with Thursday Thoughts throughout this journey, you know of my thoughts on Purpose and Happiness in life.

Also, being away helped me understand what’s important and what’s not; it recharged not only myself, but Ernest as well. It made me appreciate the life we had, as well as have, and the future I look forward to.

At this moment, I truly feel blessed. I am appreciative that we were able to travel, see and experience so many things for so many months. I am so thankful that we are able to do this with good health and mobility.

Being on a cruise ship for almost 2 months, I saw so many passengers that were unable to walk without some struggles. Although they may be enjoying their retirement, they are also dealing with issues that may have an impact with what they’re able to do and see.

Sometimes (actually, alot of times) life and minute details arise that makes us angry or anxious or sad. This takes us away from appreciating the moment and realizing the overall picture.

I hope that I can continue to slow down my thoughts, my actions, my stress, and my life. To be grateful for all that I have and to try to bring happiness and inspiration to those around me.

Let’s all be reminded to live in the moment; to enjoy and appreciate what is in front of us now. Tomorrow will be here before we know it and we don’t want to miss out on today.
